Welcome to Refugee Forum, MishaF!
I mostly agree with you, but let me add my 5 cents here as well...
1) You mentioned "Christian West". But how actually the West IS christian? In the West where the most popular male name for a newborn is Muhammed, where you hardly see a Cross (especially here in lutheran Sweden), where people don't attend church services and where 90% of accepted asylum-seekers are Muslim. I would say that it's a Pagan West with some sort of christian fig leaf attributes. As a matter of fact, about 2 weeks ago, when I read commentary to the Gospel of Matthew, I found an explanation that Kingdom of Heaven is a Church, but our christian world isn't. There're too many "random characters" if you will in this "Christian" West. In a Bible Jesus clearly discriminates between people of God or chosen ones and the rest of humanity (He's not even willing to pay attention to pagan woman begging Him for help, Matthew 15:21-28) . In liberal Sweden that would be totally unacceptable. I can make a whole long list of biblical norms and values that would be totally unacceptable, even criminal in the modern West.
2) As per "what is a refugee"...Geneva Convention explains it all. But the problem is that some countries like Sweden artificially expand the definition of refugees...They also include people in war zones as well. Though, as far as I know, those people here don't get a status of a full refugee, but "skyddbehövande" or someone in "need of protection". So people from Iraq until recently could just show up here and automaticall get a positive decision. But its an absurd. Iraq is a country of 31,000,000 people. Was Sweden (a country of about 9,000,000) really ready to absorb 31,000,000 people? Of course NOT! I can keep talking on and on about lots of different aspects that must be changed, in my opinion, but ...
3) "almighty Europeans" are judges who have a legal authority to decide whether a person in fact is a refugee.
4) I think you misunderstand what "burden of proof" actually means in a refugee determination context....
Its not the same as in a criminal prosecution. They don't require you to show a DNA test results or a close circuit video tape and alike. Noone would reasonably expect from a victim of persecution to have that kind of evidence! I think "to prove" means to "show that your story has logic, is plausible, and in which you have all the neccessary elements (subjective and objective fear, an internal flight alternative, ie. IFA etc.)
5) As per language.. here in Sweden, 90% of the locals speak English in various degrees and asylum-seekers are not even obligated to attend SFI (Svenska För Invandrare-Swedish For Foreigners) courses.
6) Sweden (unlike Canada) doesn't have an immigration program. And to get an employment authorisation for a non-EU citizen is almost impossible (unless you're a very VERY special person). See... right ot wrong...western countries see a potential immigrant as someone who will contribute to a host society. Unlike an immigrant, a refugee is seen as a burden, a trouble maker etc. Speaking of EU, non-EU thing...In my opinion, its more of a hidden and politically correct racism. I mean, if you're a European, then you can come and settle in any EU country and if you're not from Europe, then you're out of luck.
And tell me how a Bulgarian citizen can contribute more for Sweden than you and I? Like what's the difference between him and us? Ethnic background. Or someone from Europe would try to convince me that a russian speaker is less of a value for Sweden than a bulgarian native?
7) I think, its not even a PR...Its more of a power of inertia. And nowadays western countries do their best to slower it down on refugees.
"In this cynical age refugees need a virtual place, like this, to find out what weapons they need to arm themselves with to fight their just course in the foster countries. "

THANKS A LOT!!!
